Snap-on Inc. will embark on a 26,000-square-foot expansion of its plant on Milwaukee’s far northwest side to accommodate growth in its Snap-on hand-tool business and to expand the company’s product line.

A groundbreaking ceremony will be held this fall for the project that will cost “several million” dollars, a company spokeswoman said Tuesday.

Construction should be completed early 2023, the spokeswoman said. The project will allow greater capacity for jobs and production, she said.

The Kenosha-based company (NYSE: SNA) currently manufactures a large range of sockets, extension bars, pliers, screwdriver blades and bits at the plant, 7939 N. Faulkner Road.

The Milwaukee plant is one of four Snap-on tools group facilities in North America, according to Barrington Research. The plant opened in 1980 and has floor space of 157,000 square feet and 377 employees, Barrington Research said based on a recent institutional investor meeting at the facility that included chairman, president and CEO Nick Pinchuk.
