A new grocery delivery warehouse owned by The Kroger Co. is now open in Pleasant Prairie.

Kroger (NYSE: KR) works with software and robotics firm Ocado Group PLC (LSE: OCDO) on the warehouses around the country. The 336,840-square-foot facility opened during the grocer’s first fiscal quarter, ended May 21, according to a regulatory filing. Kroger, the parent company of Pick ’n Save and Metro Market operator Roundy’s Supermarkets Inc., also opened a warehouse in Dallas during the period.

Kroger now has five automated fulfillment centers.

The new warehouse expands Kroger’s ability to deliver merchandise directly to customers’ households, the grocer said. Kroger, based in Cincinnati, is using the technology-enabled facilities to sell groceries both in markets where it has stores and where it does not.The grocer expects the Pleasant Prairie warehouse to serve customers in Wisconsin, northern Illinois and northwest Indiana.

“Our tradition of fresh is all about our customers, and this true milestone moment incorporates end-to-end cold solutions, including customized refrigerated vans, providing Kenosha County residents with everything fresh, every time,” Kroger chief supply chain officer Gabriel Arreaga said in a news release.

The warehouse is expected to create about 250 jobs, the announcement says. The Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. backed the project with up to $1.5 million in state tax credits for the Kroger Fulfillment Network and up to $500,000 in tax credits for Ocado Solutions.
